The most iconic Victorian home in Port Townsend

the Starrett House Staircase
The beautiful Starrett House is an icon of Port Townsend. Built in 1889 at the height of Port Townsend's building boom, the Starrett House is a historic lodge offering a unique experience to her visitors.

The Starrett House was built by George Starrett for his wife Ann in the Gothic & Stick architectural styles. George and Ann lived in the home with their only child Edwin, his nanny, and 2 servants for more than twenty years. The joy and peace that they maintained in the house is felt immediately by anyone who visits, and besides its beauty, is what makes the house such a welcoming and comfortable place to stay. The most prominent feature of the house is the free-floating spiral grand staircase, which terminates in a beautiful fresco painted on the ceiling of the 70' tower, representing the 4 seasons. This impressive architectural feature acts as a solar calendar, and is what earned the house the nickname "The House of Four Seasons." Only 1 other staircase of its age and kind still exists in the United States. Original frescoes adorn all of the 1st floor public room ceilings, as well as authentic period fixtures and furnishings, including some of the Starrett's personal possessions.

The Starret House will be offering a special to those who book a two-night stay during the festival. As a house guest your entrance to this exclusive event is included with your stay.

Rothschild House

Special Pre-Season Open Hours for the Rothschild House
Friday, March 20 - 12:00 – 5:00 PM and Sunday March 22 - 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

As the Victorian Festival kicks off in Port Townsend, we’re excited to offer special pre-season access to the Rothschild House, located atop the bluff overlooking Port Townsend Bay at the corner of Jefferson and Taylor Street. Built for D.C.H. Rothchild in 1868, the home was occupied by the Rothschild family until 1952 and donated to the Washington State Parks in 1959. Descendants of the family stipulated that the furnishings and personal items stay on display just as the family 'left them' making it an unusually personal experience to tour this historic home. Step back into the 1800's in this virtually unchanged home from a hundred years ago.
Admission: $10 for a two-site passport, which includes admission to both the Jefferson Museum of Art & History (Located inside Port Townsend’s Historic City Hall that now houses local art, history and access to PT’s infamous “creepy” jail) and the Rothschild House.        For more information or to purchase advanced tickets, please email  programs@jchsmuseum.com
